Security Superintendent

Our Client is looking for an experienced Security Superintendent to provide leadership, management and technical advice in all areas of the Security function at their mine in the Northern Cape.

Responsibilities:
• Protection of assets and personnel at the mine in accordance with Corporate Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures
• Develop and implement measurements to ensure that the security team complies with the Client’s policies and procedures to deliver best practice in security and risk management
• Guide, influence and educate line management on all matters relating to emergency and security issues
• Provide leadership, supervision, skills training and support for employees to ensure all staff adhere to the Client’s guidelines regarding the use of Force and Voluntary Principles
• Prepare and operate within mining budgets for operations and capital projects and report on costs as required
• Provide written and/or verbal reports and information as required by management and government
authorities
• Implement, audit and ensure an appropriate Policy and Procedure Manual for the hand-over of security matters exists, including security hardware equipment and security procedures
• Implement and maintain a security electronics service contract or a site-based capability
• Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements related to security systems/events and make this information available to legitimate parties as required
• Develop relationships and networks to monitor activity within the local area and ensure that the Client is thoroughly briefed on any potential threat to its employees, assets and ongoing operations
• Liaise closely with regulatory authorities including the police to ensure that any losses and criminal activity affecting operations and business are reported, investigated and dealt with appropriately
• Liaise with maintenance contractors to ensure regular maintenance of security equipment
• Implement compliance measures and audit security measures within the company

Qualifications & Experience:
• Post-matric Qualification in Military/Police training of the level of commissioned officer or above
• Further studies/qualification in Security/Risk Management will be advantageous
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar role
• Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of security and assets protection matters in the mining industry; technical knowledge of security management, investigations, surveillance and administration
• Good understanding of political/economical/financial/social sensitivities around mine operations
• Significant experience and sound judgment in dealing with conflict situations and analysing conflicting data and scenarios. Advising superiors on an appropriate plan of action
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English
• Microsoft Office Professional
• Demonstrated experience in managing subordinates.
