These
 are temporary posts specifically sanctioned for the Protection of 
Civilians (POC) sites in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan 
(UNMISS) and are for a limited period. Under the overall supervision of 
the Chief Security Adviser/Deputy Chief Security Adviser (CSA/DCSA), the
 Security Officer, FS-4, reports to a Supervisor/POC Security 
Coordinator or Unit Supervisor as applicable, on all security operations
 as assigned. 
 
Responsibilities 
Within limits of 
delegated authority, the Security Officer, FS-4, may be responsible for,
 but not limited to the following duties:
 • Responsible for the 
supervision of the local security guards assigned on duty at the 
Protection of Civilian (POC) sites and reports to the POC 
Coordinator/Supervisor;
 • Drafts and updates security contingency plans for the POC security unit;
 • Supervising access control and maintenance of security at all the POC sites which are part of UNMISS compounds
 • Carrying out Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) and Facility Surveys 
(FSSS) for enhanced infrastructural improvements and conducting 
investigation of cases inside and outside POC sites concerning UN 
personnel, UN assets or properties.
 • Monitors air, land and sea emergency evacuation capability; conducts evacuation exercises;
 • Assists in the evaluation accessible areas maintain tracking systems 
and assist in the coordination of a 24-hour Emergency Response System;
 • Contributes to security risk assessments for the area of operations 
and monitors, conducts or coordinates security operations;
 • 
Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points 
and other UN or non-UN stake holders and conducts routine physical 
security inspections of facilities as it relates to the POCs
 • 
Assumes responsibility for guard force management; Monitors and 
evaluates office physical security measures, and conducts security 
surveys of installations and facilities; implements security 
arrangements;
 • Contributes to the identification of gaps in existing capability and make recommendation for amendment where necessary;
 • Monitors Security equipment and ensures minimum equipment 
requirements are purchased, maintained and deployed in accordance with 
relevant policy;
 • Acts as Duty Officer within the Security Section, if needed;
 • Performs other duties as required.

system capable to enable the conduct of United Nations activities while 
ensuring the safety, security and well-being of personnel and the 
security of United Nations premises and assets.

Education 
High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate 
 
 
Work Experience 
A
 minimum of six years with high school diploma of progressively 
responsible experience in the military, police or security management is
 required; of which
 • A minimum two years of experience in security 
operations centers or similar within a military, police or security 
organization is required; and
 • At least one year experience and 
exposure at the international level and in a conflict or post conflict 
environment is required.
 Experience in Peacekeeping Operations is an asset. 
 
Languages 
English
 and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
 For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is 
required.
