Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a highly trained, multicultural team on this exciting international project. The Barrick Porgera Mine is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters the Porgera Valley has a year round temperate climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 3.5 meters. The 2500 strong workforce is extremely diverse both culturally and in regards to education, skill and experience.

The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.

The position
As a Senior Officer (Investigator) with the Mine Investigations Group, you will take responsibility for conducting criminal and internal investigations on behalf of the Barrick Porgera Mine for offences committed against the company or by the Company’s employees. You will be required to submit detailed investigation reports to Legal Counsel, Country Security Manager and site Management. You will provide advice to Management on the security of people, product and property; be responsible for the conduct of operations to minimise loss; and will provide advice on production security to Production Departments.

A key responsibility of this role is the training, coaching and mentoring of the PNG Mines investigation Group which comprises of employee from multicultural backgrounds. Your expertise in training, coaching and mentoring multicultural groups will be highly regarded.

To be successful, you must have an investigative background, preferably within law enforcement and be able to demonstrate extensive experience in criminal investigations with an emphasis on product theft, fraudulent conduct and organised criminal activity. Your experience in proactive investigations targeting organised criminal syndicates will be highly regarded. You will have experience in the compilation and presentation of evidence before a court and demonstrate a sound knowledge of surveillance techniques and the use of electronic access control and CCTV evidence to deliver positive investigative outcomes.
